Become a Waste Prevention Advisor
In January 2007 the The Waste Prevention Advisor (volunteer) scheme was launched to encourage local residents to attend training sessions with the University of Brighton to help prevent waste in the local area.
The course covered a variety of waste areas including:
- UK Waste Strategy and Policy
- County Council Strategy and Policy
- Home Composting
- Food Waste
- Cotton Nappies
- Smart Shopping
- Recycling
All successful Waste Prevention Advisors (WPA) have undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and many are now actively participating in waste prevention activities in our communities.
In 2008 alone, our WPA's have attended over 138 events promoting waste prevention. Some have presented at schools and community groups spreading the environmental benefits of preventing waste.
Train to be a West Sussex Waste Prevention Advisor (WPA) Volunteer
Free WPA training is now available
Our popular, comprehensive training to become a Waste Prevention Advisor is on offer once again. With changes to improve the package we are running two courses – one in Chichester and one in Horsham, both beginning in January 2012. There will be nine taught evening sessions with Dr Ryan Woodard from Brighton University, followed by three day sessions to cover interviews and Health and Safety training. There will be interesting site visits and plenty of opportunity to talk to like-minded people.
Have you got friends, neighbours and relatives who may be interested in applying? Ask them to get in touch by phone, email or in writing.
