Waste Prevention Scheme not a Waste of Time!

The first annual LARAC awards ceremony in association with UPM took place last week at the Crowne Plaza hotel in the Liverpool Docks.   Hosted by former Top Gear presenter and motoring expert, Quentin Wilson, the awards recognised the inspiring work carried out by local authorities and recycling officers across the UK.

Entries were invited in one of five categories, including: best communications campaign of the year; best waste minimisation or prevention project; best partnership award; best regional project/initiative; and, recycling officer of the year.

Novelis Recycling National Manager Andy Doran was delighted to announce the winner of Best Waste Minimisation or Prevention Project as West Sussex Waste Prevention Advisor (volunteers) managed by Better Tomorrows Community Interest Company. Mr Doran praised the waste prevention advisors for encouraging and supporting waste prevention initiatives in West Sussex and said "Novelis is delighted to be supporting the first LARAC Awards, which showcase the impressive range and quality of activities undertaken by local authorities in the field of recycling.’’

Joy Blizzard, chair of LARAC and one of the judges, said: "It has been a tumultuous year for local government recycling but the awards are a time when we can celebrate the great work being done by local authorities and LARAC members as individuals, teams and partnerships across the UK."
"We had a huge number of entries for this, our first LARAC awards so thank you to all of you who have supported us in this way and to my fellow judges who took the time to scrutinise them all carefully. I would also like to particularly thank our event partner UPM for their continuing support," she added.
