Q. What brand and quantity of nappy are in your free Starter Pack?

A. This year the starter packs have been divided into two packs, you will receive the following in your packs:-

Pack Size 1

  • Nappy Sandy Extra Small - 2
  • Nappy Sandy Small - 2
  • Wrap Extra Small - 1
  • Wrap Small - 1
  • Liners 100 Sheets - 2

Pack Size 2

  • Nappy Sandy Large - 2
  • Nappy One Size - 2
  • Snap In Liner - 1
  • Wrap Medium - 1
  • Wrap Large - 1
  • Liners 100 Sheets - 2

Q. When can I apply for the Starter Pack Size 1?

A. You can apply for Starter Pack Size 1 up to 8 weeks before baby is due or up to 4mths after birth, a photo-copy of your Maternity Exemption Certificate (a small card, which is arranged by your midwife) will be required if applying before birth - and a photo-copy of your baby's birth certificate is required if applying after birth.

Q. When can I apply for the Starter Pack Size 2?

A. You can apply for Starter Pack Size 2 from the age of 4 mths and up to 12mths. Also, after approximately 6 weeks usage of Starter Pack 1, you can then apply for Starter Pack Size 2. Please Note:- You can apply for the Starter Pack Size 2 at anytime between 4mths and 12mths even if you have not received Starter Pack 1.   Also, you can download the Application Form for the pack from this site.

Q. Can I return the nappies if they are not required?

A. Yes, the nappies remain the property of West Sussex County Council, so if they are not going to be used at all they can be returned to us.  If they have been used and you no longer require them please return to us. Q. How many nappies will I need in total?

A. A newborn baby will need approximately 25 nappies and 4 wraps.

Q. I have twins. Can I apply for the starter packs for each baby?

A. Yes, but you will need to fill in two application forms, one for each baby.

Q. What is the point of using cotton nappies if they say they are no different from disposables?

A. The main difference is using disposables rather than using cotton nappies is you have to throw them away after use, where as the cotton nappies arer re-used after they are washed. As a Local Authority our main objective is to stop disposable nappies going into landfill.  Also, our dustmen do not like having to deal with raw sewage and the potentially harmful live vaccines in disposable nappies.
