A Tough Decision for New Parents  - Nappy Choice

 Baby with Flower

When pregnant, one of the big decisions that will need to be made is which type or brand of nappy to use on your baby. Cotton Nappies, Disposable Nappies or Biodegradable Nappies?

Disposable nappies are no doubt convenient. However, disposable nappies make up approximately 5% of all household rubbish and in West Sussex we are throwing away a staggering 77,000 disposable nappies everyday. This figure becomes particularly worrying when government targets are strictly limiting the amount of biodegradable waste each County Council will legally be allowed to send to landfill without financial penalty.

A Combined Choice

It is commendable that many new parents choose only to use cotton nappies to reduce waste. However, many new parents choose to use both cotton and disposable nappies. These parents find that using cotton nappies at home and disposables when they go out may suit them better than choosing and sticking to only one choice. This combined choice is an important consideration as any reduction in the overall number of nappies going to landfill is helpful.
