In January 2007 the The Waste Prevention Advisor (volunteer) scheme was launched to encourage local residents to attend training sessions with the University of Brighton to help prevent waste in the local area.
The course covered a variety of waste areas including:
UK Waste Strategy and Policy
County Council Strategy and Policy
Home Composting
Food Waste
Cotton Nappies
Smart Shopping
Recycling
All successful Waste Prevention Advisors (WPA) have undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and many are now actively participating in waste prevention activities in our communities.
in 2008 alone, our WPA's have attended over 138 events promoting waste prevention. Some have presented at schools and community groups spreading the environmental benefits of preventing waste.
